THE GO TO BLOG FOR ADVICE ON BODY MODS

Welcome to BodyArtAtLarge, my personal blog on advice for body modifications, tattoos, and piercings. I’ve dedicated 10 plus years to the alternative culture, and I’m here to give the rundown on not only what to do, but what not to do. My blog is here from personal experience, and things I’ve learned along the way from others.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

Be the you that you want to be

I’ve been a part of the alternative culture for more than 10 years, and in that amount of time I’ve learned so much about this passion of mine. I’ve always been a firm believer in being your own person and embracing your uniqueness. I started out small like everyone else, but I’ve pushed beyond the regular boundaries of just how big body modifications can go. I’ve planned to change my entire body into my ideal version of what I want to be. This is my personal journey, and the knowledge in which I’ve learned over the course of my beginning.

DO YOUR RESEARCH

Asking questions is a good thing

It’s a good idea to research anything that you’re interested in, so you have an idea on what you’re signing up for; and when you’re unsure of what to do, asking questions is the smart choice. Being inexperienced doesn’t make you less, it just means that you’re learning and creating your own experiences. So, if it happens that one day you need help, feel free to ask! (Of course, I don’t know everything in the world, but I can offer information based on my personal experience.)

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT MATERIAL IS BEST FOR STRETCHING?

I would have to say that it depend on the body modification. For me, I strictly use layers of electrical tape underneath bondage the for my earlobes. I only use electrical tape for both my septum and nostril body mods.

BASED ON YOUR EXPERIENCE, HOW LONG DOES STRETCHING TO THE NEXT SIZE TAKE?

Again, it depends on the body modification, but it also depends on how well your body heals. I actually suffer from multiple autoimmune diseases, so some of my body modifications heal faster than others. In about two in a half years I made it to a 12mm septum, ten years for my 76mm earlobes, and only two and a half years for my 20mm nostrils.

HOW DO YOU HANDLE A TEAR FROM STRETCHING?

I have a strict regime when it involves tears. No one is perfect, and I'll admit that I still mess up and I still get tears if I'm not careful. I start off by downsizing, and then go in with some dial soap (the bar) and lather it in a wet soft cloth and clean around the nostrils and inside the nose. After that, I go in with this anti fungal tea tree body wash and do the same thing. After that I'll wash with homemade saline wash, then I cold pack them with cold chamomile tea. I put the tea on cotton pads and stick the up my nose like I'm having a nosebleed. After that, I go in with some triple antibiotic ointment and an all natural ointment.

WHAT GOT YOU INTO BODY MODIFICATION?

It started when I noticed that my cousins had stretched ears, and I asked what they were. I was curious and spent a lot of time online looking at body modification culture, and I made the decision to make it to my cousins size, but I grew bored and wanted to go larger and larger. Now my earlobes are at 76mm. I also stumbled onto septum and nostril body modifications, which I soon added after. I fell in love with how body modification made me feel, how I could express myself. I'm still adding additions, but the more I add the more I'm growing to love myself.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INTO ALTERNATIVE CULTURE?

I've been into the alternative culture for well over ten years now. It's hard to believe that I'm already 26. I started around 15-16 years old, and I never regret what I've dedicated myself to. I used to be a meek person that was used as a doormat and I hid behind coping mechanisms to hide my appearance. As I went deeper into body modification I branched out and became the me that I've always wanted to be. It's not only a life long dedication for me, but a passion.

HOW DO YOU HANDLE NEGATIVE COMMENTS FROM PEOPLE?

It used to bother me how people would be rude and cruel to my face, or commenting online about how I've ruined my body and blah blah. You have to have tough skin when you decide to look like this. Over time, I grew to ignore those people because I knew deep down that I was happy with who I was and how I looked. My best advice is to ignore those type of people and walk around with your head held high. No one can tell you what to do or what not to do, and no one can take away your passion.
